Position Overview

Position Description

The Department of Comparative Medicine at the University of Washington invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Comparative Pathology, with an anticipated start date of November 1, 2026. We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community. The successful candidate will join our faculty on a full-time basis for a 3-year term, renewable appointment beginning November 1, 2026. The base salary range for this position will be $12500 - $14583 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Assistant Professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

The University of Washington School of Medicine is consistently recognized as one of the nation's top schools for training physicians, and one of the nation's leading research institutions.

The DCM is one of 12 basic science departments in the School of Medicine. The mission of the department is to advance knowledge and improve the health and welfare of humans and animals through excellent service support, biomedical research, and teaching. DCM is the central laboratory animal medicine resource at the University of Washington, supporting over 114,000 assignable square feet of animal facilities with an average daily census in excess of 100,000 animals across multiple species (e.g., rodents, rabbits, swine, and zebrafish). The department employs over 175 individuals who provide a comprehensive range of animal husbandry, veterinary, and laboratory services across numerous vivaria.

The UW animal care program is accredited by AAALAC International and provides services to over 400 principal investigators. DCM faculty members, post-doctoral fellows, and residents conduct basic and clinical research on a wide range of subjects including, but not limited to, comparative aspects of infectious disease, aging, cancer biology and genetics.

All University of Washington faculty are expected to engage in teaching, research, and service.

Qualifications

Applicants for this position must meet the following minimum qualifications:

Applicants must have a DVM/VMD or foreign equivalent from an AVMA accredited or AVMA listed institution.

Candidate must have board certification or eligibility in the American College of Veterinary Pathology.

Candidate must have a documented record of research or grants (independent or collaborative) relating to their area of expertise.

Candidate must have two years of experience in pathology of laboratory animals.
