University of the Cumberlands seeks a Principal Faculty (NCCPA Certified) for the MSPAS Program. This full-time, 12‑month appointment supports didactic and clinical phases through teaching, course leadership, student assessment, advising and curriculum development.

The principal faculty will engage in clinical education, site visits, program evaluation and accreditation activities, and will contribute to mission-driven instruction in Kentucky.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion and earned degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Studies Program.
  • Current NCCPA certification.
  • Eligibility for or possession of state licensure as a Physician Assistant in Kentucky, as required by the University and applicable law.
  • Maintenance of required certification and licensure throughout the appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Instructor of Record and/or course director for assigned didactic and clinical courses in accordance with curricular needs and University and program teaching-load expectations.
  • Provide instruction and assess student achievement of course learning outcomes throughout the didactic and clinical phases.
  • Participate in course planning, development, delivery, assessment, and continuous improvement.
  • Support the Director of Clinical Education in the administration, delivery, and assessment of assigned clinical courses and clinical-phase activities.
  • Conduct clinical site visits and student/preceptor evaluations as assigned.
  • Serve as faculty advisor to assigned students throughout the didactic and clinical phases.
  • Participate in academic counseling, remediation, and student-success activities, including monitoring student progress and follow-up when concerns are identified.
  • Contribute to the design, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of the curriculum in collaboration with the Program Director and respective phase directors.

The Principal Faculty (NCCPA Certified) position for the MSPAS Program at the University of the Cumberlands is a full-time, twelve-month (1.0 FTE) faculty appointment reporting directly to the Program Director. The principal faculty member contributes to both the didactic and clinical phases of the program through teaching, course leadership, student assessment and advising, curriculum development, program service, and ongoing program evaluation in accordance with ARC-PA Standards.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Serve as Instructor of Record and/or course director for assigned didactic and clinical courses in accordance with curricular needs and University and program teaching-load expectations. Provide instruction and assess student achievement of course learning outcomes throughout the didactic and clinical phases. Participate in course planning, development, delivery, assessment, and continuous improvement. Support the Director of Clinical Education in the administration, delivery, and assessment of assigned clinical courses and clinical-phase activities. Conduct clinical site visits and student/preceptor evaluations as assigned. Serve as faculty advisor to assigned students throughout the didactic and clinical phases. Participate in academic counseling, remediation, and student-success activities, including monitoring student progress and follow-up when concerns are identified. Contribute to the design, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of the curriculum in collaboration with the Program Director and respective phase directors.

Secondary and Program Responsibilities

Participate in program-wide instructional and assessment activities, including practical examinations, clinical skills assessments, simulations, examination proctoring, grading, and remediation activities.

Participate in the selection and evaluation of applicants for admission to the PA Program.

Participate in the development and periodic review of the program's mission, goals, competencies, and outcomes.

Participate in program self-assessment, including data review, analysis, action planning, and documentation.

Participate in ARC-PA accreditation activities, including preparation of required documentation, reports, policy review, and accreditation site visits.

Serve on program, departmental, and institutional committees as assigned.

Participate in faculty meetings, orientation, graduation, and other program activities.

Maintain professional development appropriate to PA education, assigned teaching responsibilities, and clinical practice.

Collaborate with faculty and staff to support the educational mission and effective operation of the program.

Perform additional faculty responsibilities as assigned by the Program Director consistent with the role, mission, and needs of the MSPAS Program and sponsoring institution.

Minimum Qualifications (Required for Appointment)

Additional Qualifications Considered Favorably (Not Required)

Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience as a practicing PA and/or prior experience in PA or health professions education. Experience in higher education teaching, course leadership, or curriculum development. Experience with clinical education or assessment of PA students. Experience in student advising, academic support, or remediation. Experience in outcomes assessment, program evaluation, or accreditation processes. Experience mentoring graduate-level students. Scholarly activity consistent with institutional expectations. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a faculty team and contribute effectively to shared program responsibilities.
