Faculty Vacancy Announcement

The Social Science Department at New York City College of Technology (City Tech), a comprehensive college of the City University of New York offering associate and baccalaureate degree programs, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in economics at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2026.

The Department of Social Science is a multidisciplinary department offering a bachelor’s degree program in Data Analytics in Economics. The department comprises the disciplines of anthropology, economics, geography, government, history, philosophy, psychology, and sociology, and offers academic minors in psychology, history, environmental studies, and economics. We seek candidates who can teach advanced and applied economics courses, as well as introductory microeconomics and macroeconomics.

Responsibilities
  • Teach primarily upper-level economics courses, including in-person, hybrid, and online formats.
  • Participate in the development and assessment of new curricula and pedagogical approaches.
  • Provide student advisement and mentoring.
  • Contribute to Department, School, College, and University service activities, including governance, program assessment, day-to-day operation, and student recruitment and retention, among other areas.
  • Research resulting in publications and presentations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support departmental initiatives and college-wide programs.
Qualifications

Ph.D. in Economics or related field. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior teaching experience at the college level.
  • Experience teaching introductory economics and advanced courses.
  • Expertise in computational or applied economics.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and R.
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau and Power BI.
  • Active research agenda that includes publications and presentations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and a commitment to collaborative work.
Compensation

$76,937 - $94,909. Salary commensurate with education and experience.

  • Salaries for eligible employees will be adjusted by 3.5% effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
