General Function

The Assistant Professor is a member of the ranked faculty with an intermediate academic rank who has demonstrated achievement in the areas of teaching, research, and professional service appropriate to the discipline. The Assistant Professor’s teaching responsibilities are assigned by the academic department head and may include serving as an academic advisor. The Assistant Professor engages in scholarly activities beyond those associated with teaching and is expected to demonstrate professional productivity in research, based upon the availability of resources and consistent with the mission of the University.

Description of Primary Duties

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in construction management focusing on one or more of the following topical content areas: civil/horizontal construction, engineering statics, construction cost management, and project risk management.
  • Pursue an active scholarly agenda including peer reviewed journal publications.
  • Support the collaboration between programs in the academic unit.
  • Provide service to the department, college, university, and profession.
  • Additional responsibilities may include participating in curriculum development and contributing to ongoing departmental initiatives.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

The minimum acceptable qualifications for the position of Assistant Professor are prescribed in the Faculty Handbook.

Additional Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in engineering, construction management, project management, business, technology, or another related field. Outstanding candidates at the ABD level will be considered but must complete their degree within one year after hire.
  • Evidence of strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills is required.
  • Relevant industry experience is required.
  • Relevant teaching or instructional experience is required.
