SUNY Brockport invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in the Department of Computing Sciences. The successful candidate will teach required and elective Computer Science courses, support CIS and Cybersecurity programs, and engage in scholarly research leading to refereed publications. Service to department and college is expected.

The position begins in August 2027 and includes teaching load and scholarship responsibilities consistent with tenure-track requirements.

Qualifications

Job description

The Department of Computing Sciences at SUNY Brockport invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position. The successful candidate will be expected to teach required and elective courses in the Computer Science program, as well as courses supporting the Computer Information Systems and/or Cybersecurity programs. Additional responsibilities include conducting scholarly research leading to refereed publications in the candidate's area of specialization and actively participating in departmental, college, and professional service appropriate to rank. This position will begin in August of 2027.

Essential Functions:
Teaching (50%)
  • Expected 3-3 course load (4-4 course load with a 1-1 course release for an active program of scholarship). For these purposes, a course refers to a 3-credit course or equivalent.
  • Teaches lower and upper division courses in Computer Science, and courses in support of the Computer Information Systems, and/or Cybersecurity programs, up to 18 credits per academic year. Engaging with students as required by the learning process and trends in the discipline.

  • Provides academic advising and mentorship to students.
Scholarship and Service (50%)
Scholarly Activity
  • Engages in discipline specific scholarly activity to produce scholarly publications and related scholarly/creative work:
    • Produces scholarly publications in peer-reviewed national or international journals, conduct professional presentations at regional and national conferences, and engages in other scholarly/creative activities.
Service
  • Engages in enrollment and retention initiatives.
  • Attends University events.
  • Provides service to the department, University, community, and profession.
  • Works as members of appropriate committees.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Computer Science or in a closely related discipline by time of appointment from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university. ABD (all but dissertation) hires must earn their doctoral degree within six months of appointment
  • Ability to teach Computer Science courses at all levels and courses in support of the Computer Information Systems and/or Cybersecurity programs
  • Ability to develop and maintain an active research program
  • Willingness and desire to mentor students from diverse educational backgrounds
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated interest and ability to teach classes in one or more but not limited to the following areas of Computer Science: Object-oriented programming, Data Structures and Algorithms, Software Development on Windows/Unix platforms, Web development, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, Data Analytics, Cloud Computing, Operating Systems, Theory of Computation, Information Technology and Cybersecurity
  • Ability to develop new courses in areas of specialization
  • Prior teaching experience at the University level
  • Demonstrated commitment to exemplary teaching
  • Ability to effectively engage faculty, staff, and students in a collegial and collaborative manner
