Job Description

The University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Nursing seeks a full-time, non-tenure Instructor/Assistant Professor. The position consists of a 95% clinical practice assignment at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, involving planning and directing the delivery of healthcare to the Pediatric Hospitalist population and providing care and health education for patients and families. The remaining 5% involves teaching duties in the College of Nursing, determined collaboratively with the Department Chair and the Director of Advanced Practice. Academic rank is based on credentials.

Responsibilities
  • Assess, diagnose, and treat patients in the Pediatric Hospitalist team according to approved protocol and acceptable standards.
  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures per written, approved protocols under the supervision of the Medical Director/Collaborating Physician.
  • Participate in the design and revision of protocols.
  • Collaborate with medical physicians and ancillary personnel to promote quality care; make referrals as appropriate.
  • Recognize and respond to environmental safety factors related to patient care.
  • Develop partnerships with patients, family members, fellow providers, nurses, and support staff, focusing on high satisfaction and retention.
  • Manage care of children admitted to the Pediatric Hospitalist team, develop family education plans, and order appropriate consultations and referrals when indicated.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or higher in nursing specialty from an accredited university (Doctor of Nursing Practice preferred).
  • Three (3) years of clinical practice experience at RN level (APRN experience preferred).
  • Current DEA certification and Basic Cardiac Life Support certification.
  • Unencumbered or eligible licensure as RN and APN in Tennessee.
  • Current Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in Acute Care certification.
