The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, aCAA-accredited program in Speech-Language Pathology at theUniversity of Houston, invites applications for a nine-month,tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning Fall2027.

Qualifications include an earned Ph.D. in Communication Sciencesand Disorders or related field, potential for a strong record ofresearch and scholarship, teaching experience, and a desire tocontribute to a growing, innovative program. CCCs are stronglypreferred. Areas of need include: dysphagia, speech sounddisorders, audiology and aural rehabilitation, speech science,multilingualism, and social communication, though all strongapplicants will be considered.

Responsibilities include teaching graduate and undergraduatecourses in the candidate’s area of expertise, directing studentresearch, participating in service at the department, university,and professional levels, and consulting with clinical educators asneeded.

The University of Houston, a Carnegie-designated Tier One publicresearch university, is centrally located in Houston, Texas. Situated within four miles of the Texas Medical Center, the world'slargest medical complex, the university affords extensiveopportunities for interdisciplinary research and clinicalcollaboration. As an expanding academic unit, the Department ofCommunication Sciences and Disorders (www.class.uh.edu/comd) is exceptionally well supportedby the college as a center for high-impact research, rigorouseducation, and community clinical service.

We have approximately 300 undergraduate and 80 graduate students. Degrees offered include: B.A. and B.S. degrees in CommunicationSciences and Disorders, an M.A. degree in Speech-LanguagePathology, and a Ph.D. in Communication Sciences and Disorders. Additionally, the department offers a post-baccalaureate levelingprogram. Our on-campus clinic provides services to a broaddemographic cross-section of the greater Houston area across a widerange of ages, disorders, and etiologies.
