Job description

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, a CAA-accredited program in Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Houston, invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor rank position beginning Fall 2027.

Qualifications include an earned Ph.D. in Communication Sciences and Disorders or related field, potential for a strong record of research and scholarship, teaching experience, and a desire to contribute to a growing, innovative program. CCCs are strongly preferred. Areas of need include: dysphagia, speech sound disorders, audiology and aural rehabilitation, speech science, multilingualism, and social communication, though all strong applicants will be considered.

Responsibilities include teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in the candidate’s area of expertise, directing student research, participating in service at the department, university, and professional levels, and consulting with clinical educators as needed.

Salary and rank commensurate with experience.

The University of Houston, a Carnegie-designated Tier One public research university, is centrally located in Houston, Texas. Situated within four miles of the Texas Medical Center, the world's largest medical complex, the university affords extensive opportunities for interdisciplinary research and clinical collaboration. As an expanding academic unit, the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders is exceptionally well supported by the college as a center for high-impact research, rigorous education, and community clinical service.

We have approximately 300 undergraduate and 80 graduate students. Degrees offered include: B.A. and B.S. degrees in Communication Sciences and Disorders, an M.A. degree in Speech-Language Pathology, and a Ph.D. in Communication Sciences and Disorders. Additionally, the department offers a post-baccalaureate leveling program. Our on-campus clinic provides services to a broad demographic cross-section of the greater Houston area across a wide range of ages, disorders, and etiologies.

Applications must include a letter of interest with stated qualifications, a summary of research accomplishments and future goals, copies of representative work, a statement of teaching interests and philosophy, and a curriculum vitae. Summaries of teaching evaluations are welcome.
