Job summary

University of Pennsylvania is seeking an Assistant Professor in the Academic Clinician Track to lead the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. The successful candidate will oversee clinical microbiology testing, teaching, and collaboration with infectious diseases teams.

Applicants must hold an MD or PhD or MD/PhD and be board‑certified (or eligible) with medical licensure in PA/NJ.

Qualifications

• Requires MD or PhD or MD/PhD degree.
• MD candidates must be board‑certified (or eligible) in clinical pathology (AP/CP).
• PhD candidates must be board‑certified (or eligible) by ABMM. A minimum of 1 year subspecialty fellowship in medical microbiology required.

Responsibilities

• Serve as clinical consultant to medical staff on test results and interpretation.
• Fulfill role as director of the clinical microbiology laboratory at a regional hospital.
• Oversee clinical test analysis and sign‑out, quality management, and test development.
• Collaborate with infectious diseases and antimicrobial stewardship teams.
• Teach and supervise fellows, residents, medical students and staff in medical microbiology.
