Primary Purpose of Position | Primary responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and conduct cutting-edge research in biological and ecological engineering. Other major responsibilities required for tenure include but are not limited to, working collaboratively with colleagues across disciplines, advising and mentoring students, assisting in undergraduate research and recruiting, curriculum development, engaging in academic program accreditation, rendering services to the host department, college, the university, and the community-at-large, and being an active member of discipline-related professional organizations. The candidate is expected to stay knowledgeable of advances in design practice, theory and technology in the field. This is a 9-month tenure-track position of an assistant professor in biological engineering. |

Primary Function of Organizational Unit | The Biological Engineering Program is housed in the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Design, which is part of the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences and in the Chemical, Biological and Bioengineering Department which is a part of the College of Engineering. The objectives of the Biological Engineering Program are to meet its responsibilities to the society by educating and training next-generation agricultural and biosystems engineers, natural resources specialists, and environmental specialists. The Biological Engineering Program is a nationally accredited four-year Bachelor of Science Degree. It is the first such program at a HBCU in USA that has been accredited by ABET since 1991. Biological Engineering students are instilled with the theoretical, technical, and life skills necessary to address the complex and contemporary social, economic and environmental challenges of the 21st century associated with the design, conservation, management, conversion, and utilizations of natural resources. Educational emphasis is placed on developing sustainable agricultural and food production, alternative energy, bioproducts, and bioeconomy; creative and critical thinking skills; high moral character and ethical behavior; and analytical and communication skills |
Minimum Requirements | |
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education | Post-doctoral experience; demonstrated record of independent research and publishing. Strong research background in one or more areas including but not limited to digital agriculture (precision agriculture, remote sensing, artificial intelligence, data science), hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, water quality, climate change adaptation and mitigation, and non-point source pollution control. Strong skillset in Arc GIS, SWAT, APEX, AutoCAD, SAS, Python, machine learning among others. Teaching experience. Interest in student engagement and willingness to adapt teaching and learning styles to students' needs. Familiarity with curriculum and course development at the undergraduate level. Familiarity with accreditation preparation and process. Ability to cultivate relationships with industry, the public, and related fields across academia. |
