Job description

The Department of Nursing within the Manning College of Nursing and Health Sciences (MCNHS) invites applicants to join our diverse college as a tenure-track Assistant Professor, beginning September 1, 2024. These tenure track positions are designed to improve and strengthen our research portfolio as well as our educational programs at graduate and undergraduate levels. We are particularly interested in faculty applicants with expertise in fundamentals of professional nursing, maternal health, child health, community health, mental health, and health policy.

Applicants must possess an earned research doctorate in nursing or a related field and be eligible for RN licensure in Massachusetts. Preference will be given to applicants who have established an independent research agenda and demonstrated ability or promise to secure external funding for research and have peer-reviewed data-based publications focused on areas listed above or related topics. Teaching experience in higher education is preferred, and experience with online teaching is desirable; teaching experience in other settings will be considered. Our programs focus on health across the life course of individuals from diverse populations and target improving health equity in populations at risk for healthcare disparities. For more information, please go to www.umb.edu/academics/cnhs.

The MCNHS and its Office of Research offer strong internal and external mentoring programs for faculty, including grant proposal and manuscript preparation. The Manning College offers a wide range of multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary collaborative research opportunities. Current faculty collaborations include those with numerous major academic and medical institutions in and around Boston, including the Dana Farber/Harvard Cancer Center, UMass Chan Medical School, Boston Children’s Hospital, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and many community, public, and private health care agencies. The National Cancer Institute funds the University of Massachusetts Boston-Dana Farber/Harvard Cancer Center grant (https://umb-dfhcc.org/); this longstanding collaboration has enabled faculty at both institutions to strengthen and extend partnerships for research on health disparities, PhD training, and community outreach.

The BS, MS, and DNP nursing programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. The MS and DNP programs focus on preparation of Family Nurse Practitioners and Adult/Gerontological Nurse Practitioners. The major focus of the PhD in nursingprogram is on population health and health policy.

Application Instructions:

Applicants will need to submit a curriculum vitae (CV) and a cover letter that includes a summary of research/scholarly interests and a teaching/mentoring statement.

Given this context, please articulate how your approach to teaching, advising, and mentoring:

  • will engage with the diverse life experiences of students,
  • will reflect an appreciation for the ways in which students bring their holistic selves into the academic setting, and
