AHRC NYC is seeking an Assistant Principal for the AHRC Middle/HS in Brooklyn to provide administrative and curriculum support to the Principal, ensuring a safe, high-quality learning environment aligned with NYS standards and IEP mandates.

Responsibilities include policy implementation, staff development, family partnerships, and acting in the Principal's absence when needed. Requires two NYS certifications in Special Education and SAS, with strong experience in special education settings.

Qualifications

  • Masters in Special Education, Permanent NYS Certification in Special Education, and SAS certification required.
  • Programmatic experience in special education settings and knowledge of state/local regulations.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with students, families, and administrators; strong writing skills.
  • Solid organizational and multi-tasking skills; able to handle sensitive situations.
  • Experience with children with autism highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Works collaboratively with Principal to develop and implement curricula that fully meets NYS Learning Standards.
  • Assists with evaluating and selecting curriculum materials and equipment; meets with Principal on method innovation.
  • Monitors delivery of educational services as prescribed in each student's IEP.
  • Oversees scheduling of related therapeutic services and reviews related notes for quality and timeliness.
  • Provides classroom coverage when certified staff are not present as needed.
  • Mentors/coaches teaching staff; conducts classroom observations and provides feedback.
  • Coordinates on-site orientation for substitutes, student interns and volunteers; assigns staff accordingly.
  • Coordinates in-service programs to meet student needs and assists staff with curriculum implementation.
  • Contributes to drafting performance evaluations per agency and DOE requirements.
  • Participates in parent communications as needed; liaises with DOE and related agencies.
  • Participates in CPSE/CSE/IFSP meetings and interdisciplinary treatment meetings.
  • Ensures attendance records are accurately maintained and oversees safety/building operations.
