Job summary

UChicago Medicine in Hyde Park is seeking an Assistant Patient Care Manager for the CCD6 Pre-Op/PACU. This full-time, on-site role supports the Patient Care Manager in daily operations, patient flow, staff support, and the delivery of safe, patient-centered care.

The APCM leads shift activities and ensures regulatory readiness. The APCM collaborates with nursing, anesthesia, and procedural teams to optimize patient care and timely transitions while supporting quality initiatives and staff

Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
BSN or higher required.
Current Illinois RN license.
Minimum two years ICU nursing experience.
Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
PALS certification within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

Coordinate patient flow and support safe, efficient care in the preoperative and recovery areas.
Lead staff huddles and complete daily or shift-specific quality audits.
Round with staff, patients, and families to identify and address concerns.
Support staff orientation, coaching, competency development, and performance conversations.
Participate in interviewing and selecting staff.
Monitor staffing, productivity, supplies, and resource use with the PCM.
Promote patient safety, workplace safety and regulatory readiness.
Review safety events and participate in quality-improvement activities.
Collaborate with nursing, anesthesia, and procedural teams for timely transitions.
Support shared governance and a respectful, collaborative work environment.
