Job summary

City of Union City is seeking a Police Chief to direct operations within the Police Department, ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, and city policies. You will oversee long-range planning, coordinate with external agencies, and lead the department's performance and reporting efforts.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field, 8+ years of law enforcement experience, 3+ years in a supervisory rank (Lieutenant or higher), and Georgia POST certification.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in political science, criminology, criminal justice or related field preferred; a minimum of eight (8) years of law enforcement experience; three (3) years of law enforcement supervisory experience holding the rank of Lieutenant or higher; Certified Peace Officer under regulations of Georgia POST.

Responsibilities

• Manages the day-to-day operations of the police department.
• Assists with development of long-range goals and objectives; ensures goals are met; interprets department rules and procedures to subordinates.
• Assumes command of police personnel at the scene of critical incidents.
• Establishes communication with outside agencies to maintain effective relationships.
• Supervises preparation and accuracy of daily, special, and periodic reports.
• Develops and enforces departmental policies and SOPs.
• Administers Federal, State, and local grants.
