Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of modern police administration and related laws.
• Strong organizational and management skills, bargaining unit and contract negotiations experience.
• Knowledge of crime detection and criminal identification methods; firearms and police equipment.
• Working knowledge of budgeting, accreditation, and community partnerships.
• Experience hiring and developing qualified officers; improving morale and accountability.

Responsibilities

• Formulates orders and regulations governing activities of the police department; coordinates with City Manager on policy.
• Prescribes work methods and procedures for department members and improves operations.
• Plans and supervises enforcement of traffic and safety regulations and crime prevention programs.
• Cooperates with state and federal officers and other agencies on investigations and operations.
• Advises and assists officers in investigations and tackles difficult problems.
• Represents department at civic meetings to explain activities and build public relations.
• Reviews and monitors the department budget.
• May be required to report for emergency tasks during local emergencies with extended hours.
• Performs related work as required.
