The Town of Burlington is seeking qualified applicants for the Assistant Planning Director. Join our team where you'll play a pivotal role in guiding the future of our town. Reporting to the Planning Director, you’ll lead a talented planning team in crafting and executing innovative land use strategies, development plans, and community policies. From shaping long-range visions to tackling current planning challenges, this is your chance to make a lasting impact on how our community grows and thrives.
Examples of work include:- Participate in the preparation of amendments to the zoning bylaw and Planning Board Rules and Regulations Participates in long range planning efforts addressing transportation, housing, and land use
- Prepare grant applications in pursuit of long range planning efforts; grant administration; consultant management
- Attend Planning Board meetings; review meeting agenda; review Board decisions
- Review applications for compliance with municipal regulations, applicable laws, procedures, and deadlines
- Supervise the Development Coordinator in the management of the interdepartmental review of subdivision development applications, special permits, site plans, site plan waivers and lots not requiring approval
- Provide technical advice to Town Staff, Boards, Committees, and the public
Minimum qualifications include- Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Geography or related (Master’s degree preferred)
- Minimum 5 years’ professional planning experience; minimum 3 years’ municipal planning experience preferred
- Member of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) desired
- Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, ArcGIS and cloud based permitting software skills
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
- Valid driver’s license required
Full time, non-union position, 35 hours per week
Salary is within Grade 6 of the Administrative & Professional Compensation Plan, offering annual increases via step system. Pay range starts at $87,000 with the opportunity to advance to a max rate of $102,000, along with comprehensive and generous benefits.
