Job Purpose

The Assistant Paving Operations Manager (APOM) will assist the Paving Operations Manager (POM) in coordinating paving resources to meet project needs. The APOM will work closely with paving crews to procure the tools and materials needed for each project. Additionally, the APOM will collaborate with the POM to develop paving plans and supervise their execution in the field.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assist in ensuring crew safety and participate in safety talks.
  2. Enforce company policies, procedures, and direction.
  3. Develop and manage concrete paving plans and schedules for projects.
  4. Help procure tools for paving crews as needed.
  5. Coordinate ordering and delivery of construction materials (non-permanent).
  6. Review and assist with purchase orders for permanent paving materials.
  7. Participate in pre-activity meetings for paving operations.
  8. Monitor and manage production costs.
  9. Review goals and evaluate performance with field personnel.
  10. Assist crews in reviewing and interpreting plans and specifications.
  11. Review timecards of paving foremen and superintendents.
  12. Review and approve invoices.
  13. Assist the POM with constructability questions and bid reviews with the Estimating Department.

Qualifications

  1. Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field; minimum five (5) years of heavy construction experience. Equivalent education and experience may be considered.
  2. Experience with heavy highway, airport, and DOD paving projects.
  3. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think clearly under pressure.
  4. Effective communication skills, tactful with diverse individuals, in person, by phone, and in writing.
  5. Ability to work independently, resolve practical problems, and keep relevant parties informed.
  6. Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
  7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  8. Ability to read and understand project plans and schedules.
  9. Knowledge of MW Safety and HR policies and ability to enforce them.
  10. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and project scheduling software.

Other Functions

  1. Willingness to travel across the U.S. for projects.
  2. Availability to work nights during nighttime paving operations.
  3. Ability to pass a federal background check for secure facilities.
  4. Coordinate safety support and planning with health and safety personnel.
  5. Maintain a valid driver’s license.
  6. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

Work outdoors in all weather conditions, including temperature extremes. Exposure to hazardous materials requiring PPE. Noise levels may vary and require PPE.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing, walking, handling objects, and reaching.
  • Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, or kneeling.
  • Regularly lift/move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to see clearly at various distances and on uneven ground.
  • Work on construction sites, including climbing ladders and stairs.
