Description of Work
The University Libraries at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln ( UNL ) seeks a highly collaborative Teaching & Learning Librarian to support diverse opportunities for information literacy learning in the agricultural and life sciences and/or engineering disciplines. The Sciences Teaching & Learning Librarian will sustain and enhance established relationships with faculty, students, and staff in scientific disciplines and related programs, such as in agronomy, horticulture, engineering, and/or computer sciences, as well as develop new teaching and learning opportunities. The Sciences Teaching & Learning Librarian is intellectually curious, passionate about information literacy in at least one area of science and technology, an enthusiastic teacher, and committed to the critical, ethical, and equitable access, use, and creation of information by learners at all levels. We welcome applicants at the beginning of their library careers who are willing to learn and grow on the job. We are prepared to provide the support, time, and mentoring necessary for such growth.
This position is a Professor of Practice and is within the Libraries’ Teaching Partnerships unit. Members of Teaching Partnerships lead and support the Libraries’ efforts to develop students as critical users and creators of information. Collaborating with internal and external partners, they contribute to student learning and success by designing and assessing learning opportunities that build students’ literacies (information, media, visual, AI) and research skills.
The Sciences Teaching & Learning Librarian joins the UNL Libraries at a time of building. We have recently launched a new strategic framework and have been hiring ambitiously for the last several years. The Sciences Teaching & Learning Librarian will join a cohort of new faculty members who have recently joined the Libraries. Reporting to the Chair of Teaching Partnerships, the Sciences Teaching & Learning Librarian will actively participate in the organizational transformation of the UNL Libraries as we work to build a more equitable, accessible, and sustainable information ecosystem.
