Port Newark Container Terminal LLC is seeking a Yard/Gate Assistant Operations Manager to supervise yard and gate operations, ensuring safe, efficient labor performance and timely service for vessel, gate, and truck line customers.

You will align staff with the plan, monitor fleet of straddle carriers, enforce SOPs, safety practices, and coordinate with the Yard Manager on issues that impact productivity and customer satisfaction.

Formación

• Bachelor's degree in any discipline; or High School Diploma/GED equivalent AND 4+ years of management experience
• Obtain and maintain Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC)
• Valid US Driver's License

At Port Newark Container Terminal, the Yard/Gate Assistant Operations Manager supervises Yard and/or Gate operations, ensuring labor performs their jobs efficiently, safely, and timely. The Assistant Operations Manager ensures that operations are managed to provide maximum service levels to internal (vessel & gate operations) and external (truck lines) customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervises yard/gate operations according to the plan. Ensures organization, plans ahead, and makes sure that each person knows what to do and when to do it so that productivity levels are high.
• Supervises fleet of straddle carriers and tracks and measures KPI’s.
• Instructs & ensures labor follows safe working practices.
• Instructs & ensures labor in the proper standard operating procedures.
• Provides close supervision providing regular feedback.
• Follows company management policies and procedures, collective bargaining agreement, and local practices in the application of supervising labor.
• Identifies and solves problems/issues on a daily basis, usually of a routine or moderately complex nature.
• Reports problems/issues to the Yard Manager, as needed, especially issues of great complexity/impact for the operation.
• Acts as a focal point for any yard issues that may arise with an assigned shift. Interacts with wide range of customers (shipping lines, shippers, government agencies, and truck lines).
• Handle empty container allocation, monitoring empty containers and arranging the movement of empties as appropriate.
• Handle customs inspections teams, AQI (Agricultural Quarantine inspection), road ability checks, and chassis changeovers.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in any discipline; or High School Diploma/GED equivalent AND 4+ years of management experience, preferably within operations, transportation, warehousing, supply chain, stevedoring, or comparable military environments.
• Obtain and maintain Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC) issued by the Department of Homeland Security
• Valid US Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Maritime Studies, or a related field.
• Knowledge of safety regulations.
• Understanding of cargo stowage and stability.
• Excellent communication and time management skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, plan effectively, influence others, and make sound decisions.

NOTE

Compensation & Benefits

The anticipated salary range for this position is $70,000-80,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, qualifications, skills, and geographic location. Eligible employees may receive a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental and vision coverage, retirement benefits, paid time off, paid holidays, and other company-sponsored benefits. Additional incentive compensation may be available based on the position.
