Position Summary
Assists Operations Manager with providing day to day direction of Sand & Gravel operations by helping with planning and organizing projects and materials, overseeing and/or supervising other employees, and assuring adherence with safety policies and standards relative to Sand and Gravel operations. The employee will be on-call for emergency situations and be within 30 minutes of the operation.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Abides by Company Safety Program and Policies while performing duties safely and assists with incident and accident investigations and reporting.
  2. Assists in review of project proposal needs and plans to help determine time frame, procedures for accomplishing projects, staffing and equipment requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of the project.
  3. Understands and becomes familiar with MSHA regulations. Assists with monitoring facilities and equipment for MSHA regulatory compliance. Works with MSHA inspectors during inspections and audits. Manages MSHA safety plan, records, and submittals.
  4. Supports operational efficiency by ensuring equipment and machinery are regularly inspected, properly maintained, and comply with required safety standards. Works with the shop manager to plan and prioritize maintenance tasks, reducing downtime and improving overall production efficiency.
  5. Assists with developing and implementing safety policies and safety plans, including training new and existing employees. Coordinates development of policies and plans with supervisors and managers. Oversees the execution of program policies.
  6. Helps review plant requests based on production schedules to accommodate appropriate sequence of operations.
  7. Interprets and applies MSHA, Federal, State and local policies, procedures, laws and regulations.
  8. Assists with overseeing daily production activities to ensure production goals are met. Identifies potential issues and implements corrective actions as needed. Works closely with the management team to ensure proper resource availability and to address any operational challenges that may impact production.
  9. Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: May oversee and/or supervise non-exempt technical employees when needed. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems with approval from General Manager.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management/engineering or related field; and
  • 2 years previous experience in construction, skilled trades, maintenance or related; or
  • an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Valid Driver’s License

Skills and Abilities

  • Must have working knowledge of construction and building equipment.
  • Knowledge of sand and gravel materials, methods, and the equipment/tools involved in the performance of the departments.
  • Must be willing to assure the administrative support responsibilities are met for the operation.
  • Must be able to define problems, collect data, evaluate resource documents, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Must have good troubleshooting skills and a high degree of attention to detail.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move 50 pounds.
