This is an exciting opportunity as Assistant Nurse Manager to support & help establish our new Transitional Care Unit. This TCU will focus on supporting boarding patients in the ED while they await inpatient beds.

The Emergency Department at Barnes-Jewish Hospital is an opportunity to work in a dynamic, urban setting where the arrival of each new second brings with it an opportunity to serve a melting pot of a community with a wide array of medical needs. We specialize in a rapid assessment and treatment of patients when every second counts, particularly during the initial phase of acute illness and trauma. The Barnes-Jewish Hospital Emergency Department is a Level I Trauma facility and a leader in disaster preparedness for the St. Louis region. No one shift is like the other; no one minute is like the next.


Role Purpose

Coordinates patient care, personnel management, maintenance of equipment, equipment purchased, and statistical accumulation.


Responsibilities
  1. Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
  2. May participate in the development of departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets and has direct responsibility for adhering to those goals. This includes responding to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.
  3. Provides and oversees patient care according to planned interventions with regard to their age and developmental needs to attain the patient's optimal level of wellness and documents according to policy.
  4. Creates and ensures implementation of a collaborative plan of care based on assessment, diagnosis and medical treatment.
  5. May support the review of staff hours worked vs scheduled hours and determine appropriate disposition if variation exists. Perform and approve daily payroll updates. Reconcile time cards, bonus tracking and coding approval. Prepare, coordinate and execute all staff communications; prepare huddle agendas and lead meetings. Determine staffing needs; make nursing assignments as well as assign overtime. Recommend effective annual increases. Interview staff for open positions; evaluate and conduct performance reviews as assigned; draft and issue corrective actions/coaching; follow up regarding any disciplinary action to determine compliance.
  6. Responsible for staff productivity and the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership. Conducts performance evaluations and makes recommendations on areas of improvement if needed.
  7. BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.

Minimum Requirements
  1. Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
  2. Experience: 2-5 years
  3. Supervisor Experience: No Experience
  4. Licenses & Certifications: RN

Preferred Requirements
  1. Experience: 5-10 years
  2. Supervisor Experience: < 2 years
