Job summary

Saint Mary's Hospital in Waterbury, CT, part of Trinity Health, seeks an Assistant Nurse Manager to lead a busy General Surgery unit. The role focuses on high-acuity post-op care, patient safety and throughput, under the Clinical Nurse Manager guidance.

Responsibilities include bedside leadership, staff mentoring, and coordination of admissions and discharges to maintain quality and efficiency across shifts.

Qualifications

• RN license valid in CT or multistate license required.
• BSN from an accredited program is required.
• MSN is preferred for leadership roles.
• Prior inpatient leadership and medical oncology/medical-surgical experience strongly preferred.

Employment Type: Full time Shift: Rotating Shift Description: Job Summary Under the direction of the Clinical Nurse Manager, the Assistant Nurse Manager provides hand-on clinical and operational leadership for a busy inpatient General Surgery unit. This role serves as a senior clinical resource, supporting high-acuity post-operative and surgical patients while promoting evidence-based practice, patient safety, and efficient throughput.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide visible, hand-on clinical leadership and real-time coaching at the bedside
• Support safe, high-quality care for medical oncology and medical-surgical patient populations, including patients undergoing chemotherapy or complex treatments
• Serve as a clinical resource for symptom management, treatment-related complications, and clinical decision-making
• Support admissions, transfers, discharges, and patient throughput while maintaining safety and quality
• Promote med/surg evidence-based practices, safety initiatives, and quality improvement efforts
• Mentor and support RNs and charge nurses, fostering professional development and accountability
• Assist with staffing coordination and shift-to-shift continuity of care

Schedule 36-hour position with flexible scheduling options, including: Three 8-hour shifts plus one 12-hour shift, or Three 12-hour shifts with rotating patterns Includes designated overlap into evening shifts to support unit operations and staff needs.

Qualifications Required:

• Current Connecticut or Multistate RN license
• BSN from an accredited nursing program
• Preferred: MSN
• Prior inpatient leadership experience
• Medical oncology or medical-surgical, experience
