Overview

Under the leadership of the Surgical Services Clinical Director, the Assistant Director collaborates with the Director, Supervisors, and Charge Nurses in planning, goal setting, developing department budgets, coordinating supplies/equipment, staff recruitment and retention, and educational initiatives. The role supports the department’s responsibilities and aligns with the Community Hospital’s strategic plan.

Responsibilities

• Supervise daily operations of the surgical services department.
• Provide problem‑resolution support and serve as a role model for staff.
• Participate in direct patient care and safety awareness activities.
• Ensure staff receive appropriate orientation, training, and maintain competency levels.
• Develop and enforce policies, procedures, and performance evaluations.
• Support quality performance initiatives, including data collection and analysis.
• Manage financial viability, monitor expenses, revenue, utilization, and execute Lean concepts.
• Coordinate with other departments to improve system efficiencies and effectiveness.
• Report to charge nurses, staff nurses, ancillary staff, and sterile processing technicians.
• Act as liaison with the Coordinator for Cardiothoracic/Vascular Surgery when the Director is absent.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years current experience as a perioperative RN in an acute care hospital operating room or multidisciplinary ambulatory surgery center.
• Experience as a Charge RN or related management role.
• Knowledge of sterile processing standards and regulations.
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills.

Experience

Must have at least 5 years of current perioperative RN experience and be capable of formulating individual perioperative treatment plans and providing skilled intraoperative nursing care.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree required, BSN/MSN preferred.

Licensure / Certifications

• State of California RN license required.
• American Heart Association BLS required.
• ACLS certification to be obtained prior to completion of orientation and independent assignment.
• CNOR certification preferred upon hire and required within 18 months of start date.

Compensation

Annual Salary: $234,249

Work Hours
