POSITION DESCRIPTION

CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The Assistant Principal reports directly to the building Principal. The Assistant Principal promotes the educational development of each student through the application of leadership, supervisory, and management skills.

New Hampshire certification in Elementary Education with Principal endorsement and a minimum of 5 years of teaching experience are required. Previous school management experience is preferred.

Job Goal: To use leadership, supervisory and administrative skills to promote the educational development of each student.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • State of NH Certification Endorsement for Principal
  • Minimum 5 years of teaching experience
  • Self-starting with strong ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with co-workers and employees.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High degree of discretion and confidentiality for personnel and other sensitive information.
  • Experience with MS Office, Gmail and Google Suite
  • Knowledge of policies governing FERPA, Student Violence Prevention and Student Discipline

Building Principal with evaluation in accordance with District and Board Policy

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

Supervisory responsibilities including evaluations of Teachers and Staff

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assists in establishing and maintains an effective learning climate in the school.
  • Plans, organizes and directs implementation of school activities.
  • Maintains open communication with the Principal regarding school activities, issues, events, and activities of an unusual or routine nature as related to the Principal's accountability.
  • Makes recommendations concerning the school's administration and instruction.
  • Assists in the preparation and administration of the school budget and finances.
  • Supervises the maintenance of all required building records and reports.
  • Prepares or supervises the preparation of reports, records, lists and other paperwork required to appropriately administer the school.
  • Collaborates with central administrative staff on larger issues related to transportation and special services.
  • Shares the responsibility of implementation/observance of all Board policies and regulations by the school's staff and students.
  • Budgets school time to provide for the efficient conduct of school instruction and business.
  • Assists in scheduling classes within established guidelines to meet student needs and state and federal requirements.
  • Maintains active relationships with students and parents.
  • Assists in the development, revision, and evaluation of the curriculum and instructional programs.
  • Supervises the guidance program to enhance individual student education and development.
  • Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary, according to due process rights of students.
  • Establishes guides for proper student conduct and maintaining student discipline.
  • Attends special events to recognize student achievement and attends school sponsored activities, functions, and athletic events.
  • Supervises the maintenance of accurate records on the progress and attendance of students.
  • Assumes responsibility for his or her own professional growth and development.
  • Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession.
  • Assists in the supervision of all professional, administrative and support personnel attached to the school.
  • Participates in the selection and supervision of all school building personnel.
  • Assists in the in-service orientation and training of teachers with special responsibility for staff administrative procedures and instructions.
  • Recommends, according to established procedures, the removal of a teacher whose work is unsatisfactory.
  • Assists in planning and supervision of fire drills, tornado drills and an emergency preparedness program and the safety of the building.
  • Asserts leadership in times of civil disobedience in school in accordance with established Board policy.
  • Provides for adequate inventories of school property and for the security and accountability of that property.
  • Assists with supervision and evaluation of the school's extracurricular program.
  • Participates in Assistant Principals' meetings, administrative team meetings and such other meetings as are required or appropriate.
  • Responds to written and oral requests for information.
  • Serves as a member of committees and attends such meetings as directed by the Principal.
  • Assists in nurse roles in the absence of the nurse to include distribution of required prescribed medication.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit.
  • The employee is regularly required to see, talk, and hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb steps, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
