Job summary

Stanford University’s Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation (DAPER) seeks an Assistant Men’s Rowing Coach. This onsite fixed-term role supports the Men’s Rowing program under the Head Coach, focusing on on-water instruction and program operations while aligning with NCAA and conference rules.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor’s degree with at least three years of collegiate or professional coaching experience, strong interpersonal skills, and proficiency in Word, Excel

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and three years of collegiate or professional coaching experience required.
  • Collegiate coaching experience is preferred, but coaches with a strong track record of developing junior athletes are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong interpersonal skills in dealing with student-athletes, peers and the general public.
  • Computer literacy with common office applications such as Word, Excel and Google Docs required.
  • Ability to navigate and manage programs Instagram and Twitter accounts.
  • Ability to understand and comply with all rules and regulations of Stanford University, ACC, the Intercollegiate Rowing Association, and the NCAA.
  • Ability to work compatibly and cooperatively with a variety of staff and personnel in the Department of Athletics, the University, and the community.

Responsibilities

  • Exhibiting a sincere interest in the emotional, social and academic development of student‑athletes.
  • Teaching on water sport‑specific skills to develop student‑athletes.
  • Demonstrating cooperative behavior in pursuing program goals.
  • Identifying and recruiting academically qualified student‑athletes.
  • Following NCAA guidelines and University standards and policies in coordinating recruiting efforts.
  • Assisting in the planning and transportation of student‑athletes to competitions.
  • Facilitating the transportation of equipment to competitions.
  • Assisting with equipment maintenance and upkeep.
  • Displaying leadership and professional behaviour in developing student‑athletes.
  • Contributing to the maintenance of a good working relationship with all members of DAPER.
  • Applying the highest professional standards and ethical behaviour with adherence to NCAA, IRA, ACC, and University regulations.
