Job Overview

Essential Duties

1. Schedule patient appointments, answer queries, and coordinate care with other departments.
2. Escort patients, perform vitals, and document in Cerner.
3. Review and code charge slips, prepare insurance claims, and submit them.
4. Assist physicians with minor orthopedic procedures such as staple and suture removal, wound care, and casting.
5. Implement physician orders for medications and treatments.
6. Handle workers' compensation and HMO requests, communicate with insurance adjusters and case managers.
7. Return patient calls promptly.
8. Manage supply inventory, stock exam rooms, and ensure medication and supply expiration checks.
9. Perform other assigned duties.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Specialized/technical training from an accredited Orthopedic Program.
• 6-12 months of experience, including at least 6 months in casting in an acute care setting.
• Effective communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduate from a Medical Assistant Certificate/Diploma program.
• One year of experience as a medical assistant in an acute care setting.
• Spanish language skills.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, familiarity with relevant software.

Licenses and Certifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association.
• Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) or obtain within 30 days of hire.
• Orthopedic Technologist Certified (OTC) or Registered Orthopedic Technologist (ROT).

The hourly rate ranges from $29.00 to $45.20. USC considers various factors when extending employment offers, including experience, education, skills, and legal considerations.
