Department of Transportation and Public Works - Assistant Laboratory Manager

The Department of Transportation and Public Works offers an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Laboratory Manager in the Construction Materials Lab, located in Maryland Heights. This role involves coordinating Materials Lab testing and inspection activities, supervising subordinate lab staff, and ensuring compliance with all relevant standards and specifications.

Salary and Benefits

The annual starting salary ranges from $74,401 to $89,273, based on experience and qualifications. Essential Functions

1. Supervise Materials Lab staff, assign tasks, provide training, and monitor production from manufacturing plants.
2. Ensure laboratory and personnel compliance with contract specifications, Quality Control Manual, and federal sampling and testing requirements.
3. Participate in employee performance reviews and appraisals.
4. Research and coordinate staff training on construction methods and practices, including concrete paving, asphalt paving, and structures.
5. Recommend pavement rehabilitation treatments and project scoping based on existing conditions and future plans.
6. Oversee updates to standard specifications, job provisions, drawings, and guides.
7. Coordinate certifications and renewals for lab staff, including testing and study materials.
8. Test and review manufactured materials, including asphalt and concrete mix designs.
9. Forecast testing needs and prepare budgets.
10. Manage municipal testing programs, including communication, reporting, and billing.
11. Plan and budget for AASHTO and CCRL certifications, ensuring compliance and preparing for inspections.

Marginal Functions

Assist IT with hardware, software, and database maintenance; perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Registration as a Professional Engineer or Architect in Missouri with five years of related experience, or equivalent education and experience. Valid driver's license required. Construction material testing experience, certifications, and supervisory experience are preferred.
