Job summary

Law360 is seeking an Assistant Managing Editor to lead the data team, overseeing reporters, editors and researchers who turn data into rigorous journalism. This hands-on editorial leadership role will shape story ideas, coach staff, and ensure the highest standards across data-driven series.

The AME will collaborate with graphics, research and survey analysts to ensure sound numbers and engaging storytelling, develop new data-driven series, and guide surveys and research relevant to readers.

Qualifications

• 7-10+ years in newsrooms with data-driven or investigative reporting/editing.
• Demonstrated leadership in a newsroom setting.
• Strong editorial judgment with data-heavy stories.
• Comfort with data of varying quality and ability to spot inconsistencies.
• Excellent communication for diverse audiences.
• Independent worker who collaborates across teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of data reporters and editors, setting clear standards for reporting, writing and production across our data-driven series.
• Ensure data journalism is edited for accuracy, clarity, fairness and narrative strength.
• Develop and pitch story and series ideas, guiding projects from concept through publication in collaboration with reporters, editors and graphics staff.
• Coach and develop reporters and editors, sharpening data skills and writing.
• Own the editorial quality and integrity of the team’s output, including interpretation and presentation of data and statistics.
• Partner with survey and research specialists to ensure reporting is well-sourced and clearly explained.
• Coordinate cross-functional collaboration so stories publish on time and meet high standards.
