Job summary

Gordon Food Service in Houston seeks an Assistant Transportation Manager to lead driver teams and supervise daily transportation operations. Assistant Transportation Manager

Location: 11303 Antione Dr | Houston, TX 77066

Gordon Food Service delivers daily to restaurants, healthcare operations, and schools so our customers depend on us-and we depend on our transportation team for excellence! Join our team as an Assistant Transportation Manager and help ensure the efficient and economical delivery of Gordon Food Service products

As an Assistant Transportation Manager, no two days are the same, but typically you'll be involved in the following:

  • Leadership- driver meetings, mentoring, motivating, ride-along/coaching trips, and training

  • Team Management- participation in interviewing, hiring, training, performance assessments, and recognition

  • Operational Management- route balancing, dispatch, equipment assignments, backhaul scheduling

  • Regulatory Oversight- DOT, Federal, State, and Local regulations

  • Route Coverage- during vacations and absences

Does this look like you?
  • At least 21 years of age

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent

  • Class A Commercial Drivers License

  • CDL-T certification preferred

  • Two to three years of previous transportation experience and/or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

  • Clean driving record; as required by DOT and Gordon Food Service standards

  • Successfully passing a drug test that will assess drug usage and a background check

  • Must have knowledge of DOT, OSHA, Smith System (Keys to Safe Driving), and dispatch procedures

  • Must be able to read, write and communicate in English (to read labels, pick lists, scanners, signage, company website information related to benefits, updates, complete paperwork and follow verbal instructions)

  • Note - effective, Jan. 6th, 2020, you must be registered through the Department of Transportation Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse and provide electronic consent in order to be considered for employment with us. If you have not registered through the Clearinghouse, click here to register
