ABOUT OUR RETAIL TEAM
Join the dedicated Retail Team at The Salvation Army. Contribute to a positive shopping and donor experience while promoting the mission to Do The Most Good at our Stevens Creek Thrift Store, which supports the ARC. This role helps foster customer service, problem-solving and teamwork in support of the Program and its participants.
POSITION OBJECTIVES
- Provide customers with the best selection, exceptional service and a well-organized store to support spiritual, social, and rehabilitation programs.
- Meet store sales and income budget expectations while managing expenses to maximize profitability.
- Create a positive mentoring environment for Beneficiaries (ARC participants) through collaboration with program staff.
- Implement positive and effective Work Therapy Assignments (WTA) and guide Beneficiaries on areas for improvement.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or equivalent (REQUIRED).
- Minimum of 2 years of Retail Management/Supervisory experience (thrift preferred).
- Basic understanding of office applications, including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Must hold a valid Driver's license, pass MVR, provide proof of insurance, and have access to a motor vehicle.
- Must pass background check (criminal history and sex offender registry).
- Ability to communicate effectively with management, store employees, customers and donors.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist as needed.
- Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, carts, fixtures, and merchandise.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to perform various repetitive motion tasks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist Store Manager with day-to-day store operations, including opening/closing, POS, inventory management, and donations.
- Cover store operations in the Store Manager's absence, including personnel and cash handling duties.
- Monitor and analyze key performance indicators to drive sales and profitability per budget and goals.
- Schedule store employees to ensure coverage; coordinate morning and shift-change meetings; maintain payroll records and attendance.
- Assist with hiring, training, and directing the store team; provide performance coaching.
- Communicate personnel issues and performance results with the Store Manager; coordinate disciplinary actions as needed.
- Ensure high levels of customer and donor satisfaction and maintain community relations; develop strategies to improve service.
- BRP (Back Room Processing) – support Back Room Processors/WAREHOUSE to meet daily goals.
- Supervise, support, and report on Beneficiaries when Work Therapy Assignments are in place.
- Protect store currency, inventory, and property; manage safe funds, deposits, and security.
- Ensure building security during non-operating hours and follow alarm protocols.
- Maintain safety measures in line with ARC policy and regulations; report safety issues; participate in safety meetings.
- May transfer or relocate to other stores based on business needs.
- Complete all tasks assigned by District Sales Manager, Command Retail Directors, and Command Administration.
Schedule
Stores operate 7 days per week. Schedules are determined by management; associates may work evenings, weekends and holidays to ensure coverage.
