Job summary

The Museum of Modern Art in New York is seeking an Assistant Manager, Operations to uphold MoMA’s standards and support the Museum Store across the Lobby, Store 2, and Store 6, including opening/closing, safeguarding staff and visitors, and achieving sales goals.

You will supervise staff, drive customer service excellence, participate in management meetings, and lead store partnership initiatives to boost revenue and guest satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • Minimum three to five years in retail.
  • Two years in stock/operations management.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Organized and detail oriented with superb time management skills.
  • Proactive self-starter who exhibits initiative and leadership.
  • Proficiency with POS systems, Word, and Excel; experience with order entry.

Responsibilities

  • Manages, organizes, and maximizes use of inventory space across Stores 2 & 6; leads inventory flow improvements.
  • Communicates with the distribution center to ensure accuracy of deliveries and receiving.
  • Oversees transfers, mini and physical inventories, and loss prevention measures.
  • Serves as point person for maintenance, security, and IT matters in partnership with MoMA Staff.
  • Coaches and develops Selling Specialists and Sales Associates in customer engagement and selling techniques.

Job description

The Museum of Modern Art is accepting applications for an Assistant Manager, Operations who upholds MoMA’s standards and adheres to and applies Museum and Retail policies and procedures; supports a positive visitor experience by staying current on MoMA activities. Assists the Store Manager and fellow Assistant Store Managers with all aspects of running the Museum Store (Lobby), Museum Store on 2 and Museum Store on 6, including opening and closing the store, safeguarding MoMA staff, visitors, and assets; attending and contributing to retail management meetings; and participating in store partnership initiatives. Exhibits and upholds the highest customer service standards and contributes to achieving the store’s sales and metric goals. Manages, develops, and trains all store staff to maintain a professional and positive presence on the sales floor and deliver a knowledgeable, thoughtful, and inspiring customer service experience.

Responsibilities
  • Manages, organizes, and maximizes use of inventory space in Museum Stores 2 & 6; leads efforts to maximize store inventory flow.
  • Communicates with the distribution center to ensure accuracy of deliveries.
  • Processes all transfers and receiving.
  • Initiates all mini inventories and annual physical inventories; makes recommendations to improve results and reduce loss. Oversees min/max levels to ensure optimal inventory replenishment based on visual presentation and sales.
  • Reviews, researches, and approves all inventory adjustments.
  • Serves as point person on maintenance matters such as housekeeping, HVAC, lighting, fire, and water.
  • Serves as point person for security, loss prevention, life and safety matters in partnership with MoMA Security.
  • Orders and maintains inventory of supplies.
  • Serves as point person on all POS and IT matters.
  • Attends product, vendor, and customer service training; participates in advanced education opportunities as offered.
  • Attends staff meetings and participates in cross-store operational projects; periodically works management shifts at the other stores.
  • Coaches, develops, and empowers Selling Specialists and Sales Associates in customer engagement, selling techniques, and client building.
  • Oversees and manages sales incentive initiatives, including monthly contests and quarterly team-share initiatives in partnership with a fellow ASM.
  • Analyzes metrics/reporting to increase overall revenue via teamwork.
  • Initiates and coordinates strategies to maximize opportunities by increasing average transaction and conversion, such as email capture, client building, product demos, and store events.
  • Organizes and facilitates training on new products for self and for sales staff.

Salary: The salary range for this position is $65,000 – $72,000 per annum.
