Job summary

Aviagen in Quitman, GA is seeking an experienced Assistant Hatchery Manager to support hatchery operations, ensuring efficient egg handling, incubation, hatching, and chick production within safety and quality standards.

You will coordinate maintenance, QA activities, and budgeting, while partnering with the Hatchery Manager to plan and execute production schedules, monitor compliance with DOT, state and federal laws, and drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or 8 years equivalent education and experience in poultry science, agriculture, biology, management, or related field.
• Minimum 4 years' progressive hatchery experience or combination of hatchery and related poultry industry experience.
• Minimum 2 years' supervisor experience within a similar environment.
• Extensive maintenance knowledge (electrical, mechanical, PLC operations, heating and cooling, hydraulics).
• Knowledge of Department of Transportation, State and Federal Laws.
• Advanced poultry science knowledge.
• Advanced interpersonal communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and motivate people.
• Demonstrated advanced knowledge of math functions and skills.
• Demonstrated advanced knowledge of financial terms and reporting.
• Practical computer skills with solid knowledge of MS Office programs.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate hatchery activities: egg pick-up, incubation, hatching, grading, vaccination, and shipping of chicks.
• Oversee maintenance of facility and equipment.
• Manage chick care, packing and transfer activities.
• Oversee QA/QC program.
• Coordinate with Breeder Manager to project egg needs; with contract service providers as needed.
• Manage weekly hatch schedules and ensure proper number of birds for processing.
• Monitor facility equipment and repairs and address maintenance issues.

Job Description Summary:

Aviagen is currently hiring an experienced Assistant Hatchery Manager who will be primarily responsible for assisting Hatchery Manager in planning, developing and implementing policies and practices for operation of hatchery, ensuring attainment of goals and profitable operation. Direct strategic operational plans in hatching eggs and chick production. Responsible for compliance with all company policies, NCC Animal Guidelines, and local, state and federal policies, laws and regulations. Also will be responsible for ISO and Transportation.

Job Description:

• Manage and coordinate, hatchery activities: egg pick-up and deliveries, care, incubation and hatching, grading, vaccination, and preparation and shipping of chicks
• Manage and coordinate in maintenance of facility and equipment
• Manage chick care, maintenance, packing and transfer activities
• Oversee Quality Assurance/Quality Control program
• Communicate with and assist Breeder Manager to project egg needs
• Communicate and coordinate with contract service providers where applicable
• Manage and maintain weekly hatch schedules providing proper number of birds to processing plant
• Monitor and manage facility equipment and repairs, addressing maintenance issues
• Maintain hatchery sanitation
• Establish and manage safety policies and procedures
• Maintain current knowledge of industry trends and information regarding hatchery equipment and operations
• Manage reports, review and analyze, performing corrective measures
• Responsible for hatchery budget
• Manage quality of Embrex program
• Manage Animal Welfare Program
• Comply with safety and corporate guidelines on business ethics
• Comply with all company policies, NCC Animal Welfare Guidelines, and local, state, and federal laws and regulations
• Perform all other duties as assigned

Job Qualifications:

• Minimum 4 years' progressive hatchery experience or combination of hatchery and related poultry industry experience
