Job summary

Care-A-Lot Pet Supply is seeking an Assistant Manager to oversee guest services and store operations. You will coach staff, monitor performance, and help maximize sales through effective merchandising and expense control.

Job description

Summary/Objective

The Assistant Manager is responsible for establishing and maintaining guest services. The position oversees the various tasks involved in the overall operation of the store, including measuring business trends and maximizing sales/profitability by developing staff and by controlling expenses, shortages and all aspects of merchandising and inventory control.

Essential Functions
  • Ensure that each guest receives outstanding guest service by providing a guest-friendly environment, including greeting and acknowledging every guest and by maintaining outstanding standards, solid product knowledge and all other components of guest services.
  • Recruit, train, develop and communicate with all staff as well as assess performance on a regular basis.
  • Implement and maintain guest service standards.
  • Maintain all merchandising standards, display presentations and signing standards and monitor inventory levels.
  • Plan and assign daily goals, tasks and assignments.
  • Ensure proper completion through follow-up. Assists in monitoring sales performance through the analysis of sales reports and comparison shopping.
  • Assist in adjusting strategies.
  • Maintain adherence to all company policies and procedures.
  • Manage all office tasks, including management of funds and media, receiving, inventory and payroll.
  • Oversee and assist each department.
  • Approve/review returns and price changes.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures according to company and OSHA standards.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position manages all employees of the department and is responsible for leadership of the employees within its department.

Work Environment

This job operates in a retail environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. This job requires the employee to infrequently lift at least 50 pounds.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. May require working over 45 hours a week at times. Shifts vary and will require working days, nights, some weekends and occasional holidays.

Required Education And Experience

High school diploma or GED.

Preferred Education And Experience

Customer Service Skills and Effective Communication Skills.
