Job Summary
The Assistant Manager will assist the General Manager in overseeing gym operations to ensure an exceptional "Judgment Free" member experience and staff experience, while driving financial success. The role involves leading a team in a positive, motivating manner and providing continuous employee training and development.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Recruit, hire, train and develop a high‑performing team consisting of Member Service Representatives, Trainers and Custodians.
- Create and maintain a welcoming atmosphere for all members, prospective members, and guests, and ensure team members follow superior customer service guidelines.
- Team Management
- Schedule team members and ensure all shifts are covered.
- Lead by example and maintain consistent accountability for direct reports through training and coaching, ensuring adherence to PF’s values and goals.
- Resolve team member issues or concerns.
- Discuss team member disciplinary measures with General Manager/Area Manager.
- Front Desk Activities
- Answer phones in a friendly manner and assist callers with a variety of questions.
- Check members into the system.
- Process new member sign‑ups.
- Take prospective members on tours.
- Facilitate all member requests, issues, and questions.
- Ensure prompt opening and closing of the gym.
- Oversee cleanliness and maintenance of the facility, taking responsibility for the largest section of daily cleaning.
- Ensure safety of employees, members, and club property; determine and communicate equipment repair needs in a timely manner.
- Manage marketing efforts by ensuring the team is aware of and trained on all marketing promotions.
- Authorize expenditures and refunds, and make daily bank deposits.
- Prepare HR‑related forms and send them to the Corporate Human Resources Team.
- Track statistics and reports (weekly, monthly, annually).
- Maintain backup support for any team member who is absent.
Qualifications
- 1 year of supervisory experience.
- 2 years of customer service experience.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Upbeat and positive attitude.
- Punctuality and dependability.
- Exceptional customer service skills; able to interact in a positive and professional way with members and co‑workers, exceeding expectations.
- Strong communication skills with both staff and customers.
- Demonstrate diplomacy in all interactions while using appropriate behavior and language.
- High School diploma/GED equivalent preferred.
- Continual standing and walking during shift.
- Continual talking in person or on the phone during shift.
- Ability to work 3rd shift (overnights) occasionally.
- Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
- Will encounter toxic chemicals (cleaning, etc.) during shift.
- Physical demands require bending, climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, and twisting to accomplish tasks.
