Job summary

Barton College in Wilson, NC, seeks an assistant lacrosse coach to support the head coach in day-to-day operations of the men’s lacrosse program. The role emphasizes growth of student-athletes, sportsmanship, and adherence to NCAA rules.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree preferred; Bachelor's degree or AA required.
  • Collegiate lacrosse playing and coaching experience preferred.
  • Willing to obtain CPR/First Aid/AED certifications.
  • Valid North Carolina Driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the head coach in day-to-day operations of the men's lacrosse program.
  • Recruit quality student-athletes and assist with eligibility certification and NCAA reports.
  • Assist with practices, game prep, scouting, film review and game-day coaching.
  • Ensure compliance with College, Conference Carolinas and NCAA rules.

Job description

This individual will assist the head coach in all aspects of running the day-to-day operations of the sport program. It is his/her responsibility to foster and encourage goals of student-athletes, stress the elements of sportsmanship and fair play and do so within the mission of Barton College, Conference Carolinas and the NCAA.Note: This job description indicates in general the nature and levels of work, knowledge, skills, abilities and other essential functions (as covered under the Americans with Disabilities Act) expected of an incumbent. An incumbent may be asked to perform other duties as required.Essential Functions:• To assist the men's lacrosse program according to all College, Conference Carolinas, and NCAA rules, regulations, guidelines, and standards for financial aid, eligibility, and recruiting.• To operate within the men's lacrosse team budget and follow purchasing and spending guidelines as set by the College.• To successfully pass the NCAA Division II University program. (yearly)• To recruit quality student-athletes.• To assist with student-athlete eligibility certification and completion of forms and medical exams, and provide NCAA reports to the Compliance Office as required, report any NCAA rules violations, injuries or accidents involving student-athletes, and misconduct of student-athletes.• To assist with the planning and execution of practices, individual skill development, game preparation, scouting, film review, and game-day coaching responsibilities as assigned by the Head Men's Lacrosse Coach.• To work, communicate, and develop rapport with students, parents, alumni, faculty/staff, and administration and to engage in public relations activities and to promote Barton College and the men's lacrosse program in a positive manner.• To perform any additional duties that may be assigned by the Head Men's Lacrosse Coach.Other Areas:• To perform any additional duties that may be assigned by the Director of Athletics. This is a general description for all assistant coaches. These distinct areas of assignment may be advertised separately in recruiting ads/documents separate from the job description as needed.Work Environment: The work environment is variable depending on athletic event settings specific to the sport managed. Internal office work is also required. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but occasionally high depending upon student population, event attendees and activities involved. The employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions and may be exposed to bodily fluids and blood borne pathogens.Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This is largely a physically active role requiring the employee to have the ability to teach proper techniques to students and have the requisite skills needed for athletic participation. Therefore the physical abilities required include: the ability to walk, run, jump, stretch, stand, sit, talk, hear, using hands for fine manipulation, to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms using a keyboard and video display terminal. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds. The employee may also have to climb stairs or ladders and specific vision requirements include the ability to see up close, distantly, adjust his/her focus and have adequate peripheral vision for the position.Desired Education, Skills, and Experience: Masters degree preferred, Bachelors and/or Associates (AA) required. Collegiate lacrosse playing experience and coaching experience preferred. Must be willing to obtain certifications in CPR/First Aid/AED and be willing to obtain other certifications as needed. Possession of or ability to obtain a valid North Carolina Driver’s license. Experience and knowledge of lacrosse training with the ability to improve individual techniques/skills and game strategy. Experience and knowledge of NCAA regulations.Strong oral and written skills; excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, and adequate computer skills. High ethical standards and ability to work with a diverse faculty, staff, students and other publics.
