Overview

JOB SUMMARY Laboratory Assistants/Phlebotomists are non-professional personnel trained in various areas of the clinical laboratory to support efficient and smooth operations. Responsibilities include: phlebotomy, preparing send-out tests, answering phones, and assisting in chemistry, hematology, and microbiology departments. The role requires the ability to work independently and be versatile across all laboratory aspects, as well as a team player to support and coordinate duties, particularly in relieving Clinical Laboratory Scientists of responsibilities in phlebotomy and processing areas, including send-out and microbiology setups. The individual must possess extensive computer and Laboratory Information System (LIS) skills to manage, troubleshoot processing issues, and handle billing. Proficiency in assisting with automated instruments and gaining the confidence of Clinical Laboratory Scientists is essential.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
  • High school diploma or equivalent; an AA or Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • At least two years of experience as a phlebotomist.
  • Certification in venipuncture and skin puncture (CPT).
  • Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Minimum of four years of clinical laboratory experience, including at least two years as a Laboratory Technician, Lead Laboratory Assistant, or Laboratory Assistant Supervisor, or equivalent experience.
  • At least two years of LIS and computer proficiency.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Experience with operating automated chemistry, hematology, or microbiology instruments.
