Job summary

Whitko Community School Corporation in Indiana seeks an assistant track coach to support the head coach in teaching student-athletes proper techniques and competition strategies to develop higher skill levels.

You will help plan and run practices, monitor student progress and behavior, supervise events, and collaborate with staff to schedule facilities, enforce team rules, and promote sportmanship and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of the fundamentals of track and field and proper techniques to improve skill and performance.
• Assist head coach in assessing skills to select team members.
• Work with head coach to establish student goals for improvement.
• Assist with developing practice schedules and organizing practices for individual and team development.
• Coordinate scheduling of facilities for practices in conjunction with the athletic department.
• Follow procedures for uniforms and equipment.
• Maintain zero tolerance for alcohol or non-prescribed substances in the workplace.

Responsibilities

• Work with athletes during practices and events to implement coaching guidance.
• Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior and provide supervision at all times.
• Assist head coach in monitoring academic performance and eligibility requirements.
• Attend in-service training and staff meetings as needed.
• Inspect facilities and athletic courses used by the program.
• Supervise athletic events and enforce team rules and sportsmanship policies.

Job description

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for assisting head coach in teaching student-athletes in proper techniques and strategies so that they may develop a higher level of skill to utilize in athletic track competition. This position motivates student-athletes to develop an appreciation for the sport and the discipline, sportsmanship and teamwork involved in track.

Reports To:

Head Track Coach

Knowledge, Skills & Implementation:

• Knowledge of the fundamentals of track & field including proper techniques to improve skill and performance
• Assist head coach in assessing skills to select members of the team
• Work with head coach to establish student's goals for improvement
• Assist with developing practice schedule and organizing practices to provide both individual development and team building
• Work with Head Coach and Athletic Director in scheduling facilities for practices
• Follow established procedures for uniforms and equipment
• The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substances abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the corporation.

Instructional Leadership

• Work with athletes during practices and events
• Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior and provide proper supervision of students at all time
• Assist head coach to monitor academic performance of student members ensure eligibility requirements
• Attend in-service training and staff meetings as needed
• Inspect facilities and athletic course
• Supervise athletic events as neededEnforce rules of the team, including those regarding tardiness, missed practices and/or games, or sportsmanlike conduct
