The position requires graduation from an accredited law school, bar admission, and the ability to obtain Illinois State Bar within one year.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited law school and successful completion of the Uniform Bar Examination or license to practice law in the United States.
• Ability to obtain admittance to the Illinois State Bar within one year of acceptance.
• Prior legal experience in ethics, criminal, or labor/employment law.
• Experience writing legal briefs, preparing depositions, or serving as a judicial law clerk.

Job description

The Assistant Inspector General serves as a staff attorney for the Office of the Executive Inspector General, drafting investigative summary reports and providing legal guidance on ethics violations, misconduct allegations, and related matters. The role involves collaborating with investigators to develop investigative strategies, conducting legal research, preparing subpoenas and other documents, and communicating with other government agencies. This position works with sensitive and confidential information related to state government investigations and reports to the Deputy Inspector General.

Key qualifications:

• Graduation from an accredited law school and successful completion of the Uniform Bar Examination or license to practice law in the United States
• Ability to obtain admittance to the Illinois State Bar within one year of acceptance
• Prior legal experience in ethics, criminal, or labor/employment law
• Experience writing legal briefs, preparing depositions, or serving as a judicial law clerk
• Prior professional investigative experience with an inspector general office or government agency
• Proficiency in writing detailed reports and Microsoft Office Suite
