Carnegie Mellon University’s Cyert Center for Early Education is seeking a part-time Assistant Early Childhood Educator to join a mixed-age infant and toddler classroom. This role is ideal for someone passionate about early childhood education, committed to Developmentally Appropriate Practice, and familiar with the NAEYC code of ethics. The position involves supporting classroom educators in providing a nurturing, developmentally appropriate environment that addresses the cognitive, emotional, social, and physical needs of children.

Core responsibilities include:

  1. Child Education and Care: Collaborate with the educational team to educate and care for infants and toddlers, fostering their growth.
  2. Program Development and Curriculum Delivery: Assist in organizing a cohesive program aligned with the Center’s philosophy (Reggio Emilia Approach and DAP).
  3. Team Building and Collaboration: Engage in collaborative curriculum planning using inquiry-based strategies.
  4. Compliance and Safety: Follow DHS licensing regulations and NAEYC accreditation standards.
  5. Family Engagement: Maintain ongoing, two-way communication with families regarding children’s development and experiences.
  6. Professional Development: Pursue continuous growth, completing at least 24 hours of professional development annually.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED + 30 college credits in early childhood or related fields, OR
  • High school diploma or GED + 600+ hours of relevant training, OR
  • High school diploma or GED + 15 college credits + 1 year of experience, OR
  • High school diploma or GED + completion of post-secondary training, OR
  • High school diploma or GED + 2 years of experience with children

Physical and Background Requirements:

  • Ability to move freely and interact physically with children, including lifting up to 40 pounds, standing for long periods, and sitting on the floor.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical exam and background checks, including child protective clearances.

Additional Information:

  • This is a part-time (~30 hours/week), non-exempt position based in Pittsburgh, PA.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
