The Assistant in Training (AIT) and Assistant Manager position’s primary responsibility is to fulfill our mission statement, “to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” The AIT and Assistant Managers perform a variety of sales, merchandising and operational tasks assigned by store management (e.g., cashiering, merchandise display and pulls, register procedures, and routine cleaning of facilities). Work directly with the Store Manager and Leadership Team to develop sales, recruit new Teammates and provide leadership. The AIT and Assistant Manager will also share responsibility for training and motivating Teammates and act as the Store Manager in their absence. The Assistant Manager position is a progression from the AIT position and includes additional high level duties specific to that position, though the majority of job duties and responsibilities are shared.

Responsibilities
- Sales Generation and Guest Service: Greet Guests with a friendly, engaging attitude; provide legendary service; answer questions about store and merchandise; recommend and locate merchandise based on Guest needs; anticipate needs and create a wardrobe experience; demonstrate product knowledge and share it with the Team; maintain knowledge of current sales and promotions, policies, and security practices; achieve personal sales goals; provide legendary service in Front 5, sales floor, fitting rooms, and the register area; understand exchange and return procedures; use the Sales Presentation Guide (SPG) daily; meet or exceed Buckle business builders and guest loyalty metrics; build Guest relationships and develop a client-based business; lead by example with showmanship and attentiveness; recognize Guest Levels and coach teammates; stay coachable and receptive to feedback; perform leadership actions consistently regardless of Manager presence; plan sales goals with Store Manager; take ownership of store’s sales performance.
- Teammate Recruiting, Training and Development: Recognize recruiting opportunities; coach and develop new Teammates; maintain a positive floor culture; model professional dress; participate in daily setup and training; motivate Teammates to complete daily tasks; demonstrate denim showmanship and fit card results; execute department calendars and weekly delegation; train and coach non-sales positions; engage in leadership playbook and performance tracking; recruit and train for all store staffing needs; assist in explaining pay and Buckle benefits; maintain contact lists and recruit top talent; lead SPG Teammate/leader training shifts; implement leadership development; manage training needs.
- Visual Merchandise Management: Own and influence product through zone ownership; execute new tools and videos related to zones; delegate, demonstrate, and review all zones; ensure Visual Standards are followed; identify merchandising opportunities; conduct informative store tours; maintain appropriate freight display; use Performance Tracker to drive visual improvements; anticipate product changes and adjust visuals accordingly; maintain visual standards on floor and in backroom.
- Operations: Maintain a flexible schedule; complete planning and opening/closing checklists; monitor security risks and prevent theft; follow Loss Prevention guidelines; execute POS procedures; handle corporate communications; maintain a positive attitude with Guests and Teammates; apply policy regarding payments, returns, exchanges and Loss Prevention; navigate home page tools; guide non-sales positions; complete all scheduled shifts; maintain a clean, organized store; provide feedback on merchandise handling; communicate concerns to leadership; follow Code of Ethics and policy handbooks; complete New Hire paperwork and tasks; plan weekly/monthly/yearly activities; train others on opening/closing checks; complete markdowns, pulls, freight, recalls, RTVs; build relationships with Corporate Office; manage inventory of supplies; handle emergencies in Store Manager’s absence per guidelines.
- Supervisory and Leadership: Communicate effectively with peers and management; support Leadership; promote personal and store growth; maintain professional relationships with Teammates; conduct daily interviews to support team development; solve problems and overcome objections; stay educated on company tools and share knowledge; understand Buckle Commitment to Success; travel to cover other stores as needed; manage schedule changes professionally; contribute to the store’s mission with strong customer service and teamwork; participate in special projects as assigned.

Assists the Store Manager in supervising.

Education And/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related retail experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Demands
The physical demands describe the requirements to perform the essential functions. Reasonable accommodations may be made. Teammates may regularly stand, walk, use hands, reach, climb, balance, kneel, crouch, or crawl; may occasionally sit. Must be able to lift and maneuver up to 50 lbs. Includes vision requirements.
