Summary

The Assistant in Training (AIT) and Assistant Manager position’s primary responsibility is to fulfill our mission statement, “to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” In addition, AIT and Assistant Managers perform a variety of sales, merchandising and operational tasks assigned by store management (e.g. cashiering, merchandise display and pulls, register procedures, and routine cleaning of facilities). Work directly with the Store Manager and Leadership Team to develop sales, recruit new Teammates and provide leadership. AIT and Assistant Managers also share responsibility for training and motivating Teammates and act as the Store Manager in their absence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Greet Guests with a friendly, engaging attitude and consistently provide legendary service.
  • Answer questions regarding the store and its merchandise and recommend, select, and help locate or obtain merchandise based on Guest needs.
  • Anticipate and fulfill Guest’ needs by suggesting additional items and creating a wardrobing experience.
  • Demonstrate product utilizing product knowledge and sales education and share that knowledge with Team.
  • Maintain knowledge of current sales and promotions, policies regarding payment and exchanges, and security practices.
  • Achieve personal sales‑per‑hour, average sales and total net sales goals set by Store Management.
  • Lead by example with a high level of showmanship, excellent customer service and attentiveness.
  • Plan sales goals with Store Manager and demonstrate ownership of store’s sales performance (Sales, Average sale, Business builders, Denim).
  • Coachable; consistently welcomes feedback from Manager to improve sales presentations.
  • Consistently perform leadership actions and maintain high standards, whether or not the Manager is present.
Teammate Recruiting, Training and Development
  • Recognize recruiting opportunities and coach new Teammates to meet Buckle’s accountability and daily standards.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and demonstrate personal dress code to encourage and coach teammates.
  • Motivate Teammates to initiate and complete daily tasks set by Store Management.
  • Partner with Store Manager to pick store’s education focus and delegate and implement focus all week.
  • Assist Store Manager in recruitment of all store staffing needs.
  • Explain pay and Buckle Benefits and keep the contact list up to date with top talent.
  • Execute actions from department calendars and track on the Weekly Delegation Worksheet.
Visual Merchandise Management
  • Own and influence product through zone ownership and assign zones to Teammates with a specific learning goal in mind.
  • Partner with Store Manager to demonstrate, review and ensure visual standards, visual library and weekly visual checklist.
  • Recognize merchandising opportunities from freight to floor and communicate recommendations and solutions to Store Manager.
  • Ensure sales floor is consistently sized and new freight is appropriately displayed.
Operations
  • Work a flexible schedule, which may include mornings, evenings and weekends.
  • Utilize planner and complete opening and closing checklists.
  • Recognize security risks and prevent or handle thefts, following Loss Prevention guidelines.
  • Execute and teach all point of sale (POS) procedures and handle corporate calls appropriately.
  • Maintain a clean, organized and shoppable store to fulfill Buckle’s mission statement.
  • Provide feedback to Store Manager and Leadership Team regarding merchandise handling concerns.
  • Coordinate with Corporate Office Departments to assist Store Manager in effective operation of the store.
  • Handle emergencies in Store Manager’s absence in accordance with company guidelines.
Supervisory and Leadership
  • Comfortable giving and receiving feedback from peers and Management.
  • Promote personal and store growth and demonstrate a professional, mature and stable relationship with all Teammates.
  • Execute daily interviews as needed to support Team Development and growth.
  • Motivated to self‑educate on all company tools and share information with others.
  • Understand and administer Buckle Commitment to Success.
  • Provide special projects and other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Assists the Store Manager in supervising.

Education And/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related retail experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

While performing the duties of this job, the Teammate regularly works in a retail store setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
