Job summary

UCI Health in Irvine, CA is seeking a Customer Service Specialist for our high-volume Referral Center. You will establish and nurture relationships with internal and external referral entities, including medical groups, IPAs, health plans, and community physicians, to support timely patient care.

The role requires knowledge of medical terminology and insurance programs, plus strong communication skills to manage a large volume of calls and resolve issues efficiently.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years experience in a healthcare customer service role.

• Ability to handle a high volume of phone calls.

Responsibilities

• Establish, support, and maintain relationships with internal and external referral entities (medical groups, IPA’s, health plans, community physicians).
• Coordinate with referral sources to ensure accurate patient registration and scheduling.
• Handle high-volume phone inquiries with professionalism and tact.

Your Role on the Team

Position Summary:

Incumbent works in a high volume Referral Center to establish, support and maintain relationships with internal and external referral entities, such as medical groups, IPA's, Health Plans and community physicians.

What It Takes to be Successful

Required Qualifications:

• Working knowledge of MS Office products


• Understanding of medical terminology as well as insurance programs and payors


• Minimum 1 to 2 years experience in a Customer Service position within the health care environment


• Knowledge of hospital based registration/scheduling system to register patients


• Demonstrated skill to communicate via telephone and handle extremely high volume of phone calls


• Ability to problem solve, negotiate and research for answers


• Ability to effectively communicate in a clear and concise manner


• Ability to appropriately deal with stressful situations and individuals while remaining calm and professional

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous call center experience


• Bilingual skills in English and Spanish and/or Vietnamese
