JOB OVERVIEW

The Assistant Housekeeping Manager supports the overall leadership and daily operation of the Housekeeping department in a full-service, high-volume hotel. Working closely with the management team, this role helps direct guest room and public-area cleanliness, manages team performance and productivity, and ensures a consistently exceptional experience that meets brand standards. This hands-on leader balances operational oversight with active floor presence: coaching team members, adjusting priorities to match occupancy and business demands, resolving guest concerns, and driving quality, efficiency, and cost control. Such a position assumes responsibility for the department in the absence of senior housekeeping leadership and partners cross-functionally to support seamless hotel operations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist Support the Housekeeping leadership team in planning, directing, and managing daily operations across guest rooms and public areas
  • Set and adjust departmental priorities based on occupancy, forecasted business levels, group activity, VIP arrivals, and special events
  • Assume leadership of the department in the absence of senior housekeeping management, exercising independent judgment to resolve operational challenges and allocate resources effectively
  • Lead, coach, and develop team members, setting clear expectations for performance, conduct, and guest service
  • Direct onboarding, training, coaching, and performance-management activities in partnership with senior leadership and Human Resources
  • Manage staffing levels, scheduling, attendance, and labor productivity in alignment with operational requirements and financial objectives
  • Foster a positive, respectful, and accountable work environment that supports employee engagement and retention
  • Oversee room and public-area quality assurance programs to ensure compliance with brand standards and established operating procedures
  • Monitor departmental performance and implement improvements that enhance efficiency, quality, and guest satisfaction
  • Resolve guest concerns and service-recovery opportunities with professionalism, sound judgment, and timely follow-through
  • Assist with departmental budgeting, forecasting, purchasing, expense management, and cost-control initiatives
  • Oversee the control and management of linens, amenities, cleaning supplies, uniforms, and equipment
  • Review operational reports and performance metrics to identify trends, address variances, and support sound business decisions
  • Ensure compliance with brand standards, hotel policies, safety and sanitation requirements, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations
  • Partner with Front Office, Engineering, Laundry, Food & Beverage, Human Resources, and other departments to support seamless operations
  • Participate in hotel leadership meetings, quality initiatives, operational planning, and cross-functional projects as assigned
  • Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; hospitality or management education preferred
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of progressive housekeeping leadership experience in a hotel environment; full-service, upscale, or branded hotel experience preferred
  • Demonstrated experience managing employees, staffing, scheduling, performance, and day-to-day departmental operations
Required Skills/Abilities
  • Strong leadership and team-development skills, with the ability to motivate, coach, and hold a diverse team accountable in a high-volume environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with guests, team members, and leadership at all levels
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities and adapt quickly to changing occupancy, business demands, and last-minute operational needs
  • Solid organizational and time-management skills, with strong attention to detail and follow-through
  • Sound judgment and problem-solving ability, particularly in guest service-recovery situations
  • Working knowledge of housekeeping operations, cleaning standards, chemicals, equipment, and sanitation and safety practices (including OSHA and bloodborne-pathogen standards)
  • Understanding of labor management, scheduling, and productivity/cost-control principles
  • Ability to interpret operational reports, forecasts, and performance metrics to inform decisions
  • Proficiency with property management systems (e.g., PEP, OnQ), housekeeping/task-management platforms, and basic Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to maintain composure and professionalism under pressure during peak periods
Schedule

Work schedules are based on the operational needs of the business. Availability to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays is required for this position

Physical, Mental and Environmental & Technical Demands

Fast-paced environment, multiple tasks to be handled under time constraint. Must be able to bend, crouch, kneel, and twist in the work area. The role involves frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, lifting, pushing, and pulling objects weighing up to 250lbs. often for extended periods. Must be able to maneuver around property. Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to operate a computer, telephone, and copier. Must have manual dexterity to operate all office equipment. May include exposure to high levels of ambient noise for prolonged periods, must be able to perform essential job functions effectively in such conditions.
