JOB TITLE - Assistant High School Boys Basketball Coach

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR - Director of Athletics & Activities

RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM - Assistant Director of Athletics & Activities, Athletics & Activities Coordinator, Head Coach

PURPOSE: To instruct participants in fundamental skill, strategy, and physical training necessary for individual and team success. Students shall receive instruction that leads to moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self‑discipline, self‑confidence, and sportsmanship. Implements "quality" principles and tools to improve program effectiveness.

Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Knowledge of sports and rules; demonstrate proper care of injuries and prevention; convey knowledge of sport; abide with rules and regulations; consistency with philosophy and ethics.

Certification/Licensure: Appropriate BOEE licensure.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Coaching performance and interpersonal relations.
• Promote sportsmanship at events and practices.
• Prepare and implement practice plans and set yearly goals for each team and program.
• Display good team preparation in mechanics, emotional readiness, and skill development.
• Show concern for safety and well‑being of athletes.
• Command respect, set example, and remain ethical.
• Cooperate with other coaches, share knowledge, and respect other sports and programs.
• Maintain positive support and consistent discipline per administrative policy.
• Demonstrate concern for athletes' academic program and conduct.
• Inform of hazards and proper use of equipment.
• Acknowledge student achievement appropriately.
• Cooperate in developing eligibility lists, equipment needs, and program information.
• Ensure completion of pre‑participation requirements.
• Maintain accurate record keeping and inventory management.
• Follow Athletic Department policy in all areas.
• Manage entire program, not just varsity level.
• Provide supervision and administration during contests, practices, travel, and locker rooms.
• Participate in in‑service and professional athletic meetings.
• Accept recommendations from supervisors.
• Implement effective public relations program with media, colleges, parents, and students.

Physical Requirements

• Repetitive bending, lifting, and hand movement.
• Work while standing, moving, and/or walking.
• Must be drug, tobacco, and alcohol‑free while working.
• Must have normal vision and hearing.
• Must operate motor vehicle to travel between sites.

Terms of Employment

• Per Board Policies and the UEA Master Contract.
• Contract determined by sport and season dates.
• Performance evaluated per Board Policy.
