Job summary

Good Shepherd Services seeks an Assistant Group Leader to support after-school enrichment and recreational activities for PS 297. The role involves supervising participants, assisting with diverse activities, and helping maintain a safe, engaging environment after school.

The position is non-exempt, up to 20 hours per week, with a schedule Monday–Friday, 2pm–6pm during the school year, and pays $17.00 per hour.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must demonstrate reliable and consistent work habits, and ability to work with other youth.
• Must be available during the program hours listed above.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability and willingness to work in a dynamic team environment.
• Commitment to work from a strength-based and/or youth development perspective.

Responsibilities

• Assist the group leader with engaging activities, including sports, arts and crafts, and special events.
• Collect attendance folders and other data as necessary.
• Supervise participants throughout the afterschool program.
• Distribute snacks and assist with clean-up.
• Monitor and uphold the rules of the program and afterschool model.
• Support instructors with lessons and activities.
• Collaborate with the group leader to ensure a safe, supportive environment.
• Follow all GSS, DYCD, and SACC regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

The Assistant Group Leader supports and assists staff in carrying out all planned educational and enrichment activities for the after-school enrichment and recreational program.

Reports To: Program Director, PS 297

Hours: Up to 20 hours/Week; Non-Exempt;

Schedule: School Year / September - June / Monday - Friday, 2pm to 6pm

Salary: $17.00 / hour

Major Duties:

• Assist the group leader with engaging activities, including sports and recreation, educational, arts and craft and special events
• Collect attendance folder and other data as necessary
• Supervise participants throughout afterschool program
• Distribute snacks and assist with clean-up
• Assist with monitoring and maintaining the rules of the program and upholding the afterschool model
• Support activity instructor(s) with lessons.
• Collaborate with group leader to ensure a safe and supportive environment.
• Follows all GSS, DYCD and SACC regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
