Position Purpose

The Assistant Grocery Manager supports the Grocery Manager in leading the day-to-day operations of the Grocery Department, including Grocery, Dairy, and Frozen areas. This position is responsible for delivering outstanding customer service, supporting department associates, maintaining merchandising standards, managing inventory, and ensuring compliance with company policies and food safety standards. The Assistant Grocery Manager may also oversee store operations in the absence of the Store Director and Assistant Store Director.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service & Sales

• Provide prompt, friendly, and professional customer service.
• Resolve customer concerns and complaints in a timely manner.
• Assist customers with product locations, special orders, and carryout requests when needed.
• Promote a positive shopping experience through excellent service and department presentation.
• Support department sales, profit, and customer satisfaction goals.

Department Operations

• Supervise and participate in Grocery, Dairy, and Frozen department activities.
• Ensure shelves, displays, and endcaps are properly stocked, faced, and merchandised.
• Execute promotional displays, seasonal transitions, and weekly merchandising plans.
• Monitor product rotation, inventory control, and backroom organization.
• Check deliveries and verify invoices against received merchandise.
• Maintain department cleanliness, organization, and food safety standards.
• Monitor and maintain proper storage and refrigeration temperatures.
• Assist with ordering and inventory management using company systems and tools.

Leadership & Team Development

• Train, coach, and develop Grocery, Dairy, and Frozen associates.
• Provide direction and support to department team members.
• Assist with scheduling to ensure appropriate staffing levels.
• Monitor productivity and maintain department performance standards.
• Participate in interviewing and onboarding new associates.
• Promote a positive and inclusive work environment.

Compliance & Safety

• Ensure compliance with company policies, food safety standards, and government regulations.
• Maintain a safe working environment for customers and associates.
• Identify and address potential hazards promptly.
• Support loss prevention and shrink reduction initiatives.
• Follow all sanitation, safety, and operational procedures.

Store Leadership

• Serve as Manager-on-Duty when assigned.
• Oversee total store operations in the absence of the Store Director and Assistant Store Director.
• Support store-wide initiatives, merchandising programs, and operational objectives.
• Collaborate with other department leaders to achieve overall store goals.
