Job summary

Smoky Mountain Country Club in Whittier, North Carolina, seeks a motivated Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join our maintenance team. The role offers hands-on experience across turfgrass management in a Western North Carolina climate and opportunities to take ownership of key areas of the operation.

The ideal candidate will have a valid driver’s license, be able to obtain a NC pesticide license within 90 days, and work well with a team while maintaining safety and records.

Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license required.
• Ability to obtain NC pesticide applicator license within 90 days.
• Experience operating golf course maintenance equipment.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Golf Course Superintendent with daily operation and maintenance.
• Supervise and direct maintenance crew in the absence of the Superintendent.
• Plan and schedule daily maintenance activities and crew assignments.
• Operate and maintain turfgrass maintenance equipment and ensure safe use.
• Perform irrigation system maintenance and repairs.
• Apply fertilizers and pesticides per labels and regulations.
• Assist with fertility, plant protection, and cultural management programs.
• Monitor turfgrass conditions and pest/disease issues.
• Maintain records of pesticide and fertilizer applications.
• Assist with inventory management of supplies.
• Communicate daily priorities and course conditions.
