Job summary

Job description

Assistant Golf Course Superintendent – Full‑time position located at The Hills, East Quogue, New York. Begins May 2026.

Key Responsibilities
  • Golf Course Construction and Development
    • Support all site supervision on designated golf course construction projects.
    • Maintain a safe, clean and organized jobsite in line with Discovery Builders Golf staff standards.
    • Create an environment of professionalism, respect, timeliness, and accountability among the project team.
    • Maintain overall project schedules.
    • Manage self‑perform labor, outside labor and subcontractors.
    • Quality control.
    • Request information and coordinate with the project manager and Golf Course Superintendent.
    • Track material procurement to ensure schedule goals.
    • Ensure project completion.
    • Punch list and turnover to ensure customer satisfaction.
    • Provide input to Golf Course Superintendent for project schedules.
    • Input data into weekly reports for the project manager.
    • Ongoing support of development initiatives to coordinate efforts with operations and sales.
    • Client interaction; confirming schedule milestones and project methods.
  • Golf Course Maintenance and Operations
    • Support management of all aspects of golf course maintenance, including mowing, fertilization, pest control, and irrigation.
    • Assist with operation and maintenance of all grounds for the project including landscape, grounds and common areas.
    • Work closely with other departments to ensure consistency within overall project and development relating to landscape and grounds.
    • Oversee drainage, irrigation and watering systems.
    • Develop and implement comprehensive turf management programs to maintain optimal playing conditions year‑round.
    • Maintain course in proper playing condition.
    • Supervise all planting, fertilizing and care of turf, plants, shrubs, trees and other facilities on the golf course.
    • Recruit, train, schedule, supervise and evaluate all personnel assigned to the department.
    • Maintain accurate work records for all personnel in the department.
    • Plan professional development and training activities for subordinates.
    • Conduct regular inspections of the course to identify areas for improvement and develop action plans.
    • Conduct daily facility security checks ensuring accurate inventory of equipment and keys.
    • Supervise operation of the equipment repair shop.
    • Maintain all grounds and course maintenance equipment.
    • Oversee equipment maintenance and repair, ensuring all machinery is in proper working condition.
    • Collaborate with golf course management to plan and execute course improvement projects.
    • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, expenses and inventory.
    • Ensure chemicals, petroleum and other controlled products are used, stored and disposed of in accordance with local, state and federal regulations.
    • Minimize the use of chemicals and petroleum products.
    • Select and prepare proper fertilizers and nutrients for all flora and fauna.
    • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and best practices for sustainable golf course management.
    • Implement and enforce comprehensive safety program for employees, members and guests on course in compliance with local, state and federal laws.
    • Prepare and revise grounds manual.
    • Keep members informed about current and future maintenance activities.
    • Communicate with other departments as necessary.
    • Attend turf conferences, equipment shows, workshops and other educational programs to maintain current knowledge of technical and turf innovations.
    • Attend staff and management meetings.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in turf management, agronomy, horticulture or a related field (preferred).
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in golf course maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of turfgrass species, irrigation systems and golf course agronomy practices.
  • Well versed in all aspects of Golf Course Construction and management of Golf Course Construction personnel.
  • Valid driver's license and pesticide applicator's license (or ability to obtain).

  • Ability to meet physical demands: working indoors and outdoors in all weather, standing, walking, moving for >8 hours and lifting/carrying items sometimes >50 pounds.
