Job summary

Joel Barlow High School in Redding, CT, seeks an Assistant Girls Tennis Coach for the upcoming season to work closely with the head coach and help develop the skills and sportsmanship of our student-athletes. The ideal candidate has prior tennis experience, a strong knowledge of rules and strategies, excellent communication, and a commitment to academics and positive team culture.

CPR/First Aid certification is preferred, and availability for the entire season including practices and matches is

Qualifications

• Previous experience playing or coaching tennis at the high school level or higher.
• Strong knowledge of tennis rules, strategies, and techniques.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with student-athletes and their families.
• Ability to work collaboratively with the head coach and other staff members.
• A commitment to the academic and athletic development of student-athletes.
• CPR and First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
• Availability for the entire duration of the tennis season, including practices, matches, and team events.
• A positive attitude and a passion for mentoring young athletes.

Responsibilities

• Assist the head coach in planning and conducting daily practice sessions, focusing on skill development, strategy, and teamwork.
• Help organize and supervise team activities, including matches, tournaments, and team meetings.
• Provide individual and group instruction to players, emphasizing technique, sportsmanship, and personal growth.
• Monitor the academic and athletic progress of team members, ensuring they meet eligibility requirements and maintain a balance between sports and academics.
• Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and school administration regarding schedules, expectations, and any concerns that may arise.
• Assist in the development of game strategies and preparation for competitions.
• Help maintain equipment and facilities, ensuring they are safe and ready for use.
• Promote a positive team culture that encourages teamwork, respect, and a love for the game.
• Attend coaching clinics and workshops as required to enhance coaching skills and knowledge.
