Salt & Straw NYC is hiring an Assistant General Manager to lead shop operations and guest experiences in a fast-paced retail setting. You will partner with the General Manager to drive daily results, mentor teams, and uphold our hospitality standards.

Ideal candidates bring 2+ years in food service or hospitality with leadership experience and availability for evenings, weekends, and holidays. Competitive pay and benefits are provided.

• 18+ months of progressive leadership experience.
• Led teams of 10+ Team Members in a high-volume environment.
• Available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Partner with the GM to achieve operational, cultural, and financial goals.
• Lead shifts, ensuring smooth operations and exceptional guest experiences.
• Plan and execute daily shift schedules, task assignments, and team safety.
• Coach, mentor, and provide feedback to Team Members, Shift Coordinators, and Scoopers.
• Support recruiting, hiring, onboarding, training, and retention of a high-performing team.
• Manage cash transactions, inventory, and ensure product quality and food safety.
• Assist with payroll, supplies, shop communications, and daily documentation.
• Monitor labor and sales performance and support monthly P&L insights.
• Partner on maintenance needs and vendor communications.
• Deliver memorable hospitality, share flavor stories, and resolve guest concerns.
• Step into team roles as needed and participate in community events.

What Assistant General Managers Do

Assistant General Managers support the overall success of the shop by leading people, operation execution, and guest experience in a fast-paced retail and food service environment. In this role, you'll partner closely with your General Manager to support daily retail and food service operations, build and develop strong teams, and create exceptional experiences for both employees and guests. You'll help drive operational excellence, foster an engaging and inclusive shop culture, and contribute to making each shop a true neighborhood destination.
